The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, on Friday inspected the reconstruction process of the city of Derna, accompanied by a number of prominent leaders in the state.
Field Marshal Haftar was accompanied on his visit by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, and the Prime Minister, Osama Hammad, along with the Director General of the Development and Reconstruction Fund, Engineer Belqassem Khalifa.
Lieutenant General Khairi al-Tamimi, director of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, and Maj. Gen. Khaled Haftar, chief of staff of security units, also participated in the tour, along with a group of commanders of military units and chiefs of staff.
The visit comes to see the progress of reconstruction projects led by the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund in this historic city.
The tour included multiple sites, including Al-Fatayeh University, known as “Chinese buildings”, in addition to new construction projects, the Sahaba Mosque, and the bridges of Wadi Derna, and was completed by passing through the main roads and streets of the city.
The visit paid special attention to the problems of university students, where it was stressed the need to resume the educational process normally, and to complete construction and maintenance work according to the specified schedules.
On the tenth of last September, the city of Derna was hit by Hurricane “Daniel”, which left floods that changed the features of the city and killed thousands, and the people faced difficulties during the displacement as a result of the extensive damage to the infrastructure, and more than half of the health facilities stopped.
