The Libyan House of Representatives announced today the opening of nominations to lead a new government, in a call directed at national competencies to assume this responsibility.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh, called on the representatives and members of the Supreme Council of State to recommend the most qualified persons to assume the position.
The House of Representatives also began receiving nomination applications at its headquarters in Benghazi starting today and will continue until August 11.
This call is based on the Constitutional Declaration and the Thirteenth Constitutional Amendment, in addition to the electoral laws issued by the Council, and the results of agreements reached in the outcomes of the 6+6 Dialogue Committee, and the negotiations held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The announcement comes after a meeting held on July 18 in Cairo that brought together members of the House of Representatives and the State Council, where they agreed on a roadmap that includes the formation of a unified government of competencies.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya welcomed the meeting and encouraged building on what was agreed upon, noting the need to include a clear path towards elections in future plans.
