The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed in a statement its astonishment and condemnation of the recent actions issued by the outgoing Libyan government towards Egypt.

The statement indicated that these actions are a clear violation of the laws and official decisions issued by the legitimately elected House of Representatives in Libya.

The Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation for the position of the Arab Republic of Egypt and its continued support, especially in the circumstances that Libya is going through.

As for the security situation, the ministry called on friendly and sisterly countries to transfer their embassies and representatives of international bodies to the city of Benghazi, which enjoys security and stability, given the unstable situation in the capital, Tripoli.

This statement came in the context of an official visit by the Libyan Prime Minister, Osama Hamad, to Cairo, where he and his accompanying delegation were received by his Egyptian counterpart. During the visit, which took place on Sunday, August 11, 2024, talks were exchanged on common issues and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

It is noteworthy that the outgoing Libyan government informed Egyptian intelligence officials working at the embassy in Tripoli to leave Libyan territory immediately in protest against receiving Hamad.
