Major General Khaled Haftar, Chief of Staff of Libyan Security Units, held a meeting with Nicholas Brent, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy, in Benghazi.
The meeting addressed regional challenges and the need to preserve Libya’s sovereignty and secure its borders, and Brent reiterated the United States’ unwavering commitment to supporting Libya in its efforts to unify security institutions.
Brent stressed the importance of achieving lasting peace and stability in the region, expressing his appreciation for the warm welcome and fruitful discussions with General Haftar on the overall current challenges.
He explained that the talks addressed a number of crucial issues, including the importance of protecting Libyan sovereignty and the need to secure borders, challenges to regional stability, “and how we can cooperate to address them.”
Brent expressed the United States’ commitment to continue to cooperate with military officials from across Libya to support efforts to unify security forces and ensure sustainable peace and stability in the region.
The U.S. position came during the participation of a Libyan military delegation at the African Land Forces Summit in Zambia last month, in which the United States participated in addition to 750 representatives from across Africa.
