Libyan Airlines announced the reopening of the European air route for its aircraft for the first time in years, through its flight from Istanbul to Mitiga Airport.
The company explained on its ‘Facebook’ page that the ‘Airbus 330’ used Greek and Maltese airspace, which shortened the flight time by an hour and saved 3,100 kg of fuel.
The company indicated that this increases operational efficiency and saves time for passengers alike, considering this step a qualitative leap for the company in order to reduce operating costs, appreciating the efforts of the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Air Transport Administration, and the company’s Air Deportation Department in reopening this air route.
It is noteworthy that on May 15, the head of the outgoing Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, discussed with the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vallin, the work of the joint committee between the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority and the European Aviation Agency (EASA), and the results it reached regarding completing the European requirements to lift the flight ban imposed on Libya in European airspace.
At the end of last June, the European Commission decided to extend the ban on Libyan airlines from operating in European airports, and to keep them on the European Union’s aviation blacklist.
