Several Libyan women in their sixties defied the traditional restrictions of society, as they decided to resume their education, and appeared taking the preparatory certificate exams.

The Libyan Ministry of Education page published through its official Facebook account the names of these prominent students, and they are: Fatima Salem Al-Saliheen (63 years old), Kakno Muhammad Masuki (61 years old), Raqia Muhammad Al-Senussi (66 years old), Nima Abdul Salam Osman (65 years old), Masouda Sahl Mohammed (67 years old).

The post also included a video clip of “Masouda,” who revealed her beginning in her education journey, when she was not even good at writing her name.

She explained that her determination to achieve her dream did not waver despite attempts to discourage her, stressing that she had full support from her family and children, adding that the school administration was welcoming and supportive, and provided the necessary facilities to take into account the age difference.

The video received admiration and encouraging comments, as social media users expressed their pride and support for these women, pointing out that science is a right for all ages.

The educational process in Libya was affected as a result of the war, and the country witnessed children dropping out of schools, and the war also attracted young people to engage in military actions instead of education.
