The Assistant Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army, Lieutenant General Salah al-Din al-Namroush, announced that the area extending from Abu Kammash to the Ras Jadir crossing has been transformed into a closed military zone, and the passage of any unauthorized military vehicles has been prohibited.
The Information Office of the Military District on the West Coast indicated that the decision was made to enhance security in the region and to deal firmly with any attempts to breach it. Special battalions were assigned by the Chief of General Staff to secure all entrances and exits to this strategic region.
This measure comes after the opening of the border crossing with Tunisia was postponed three times in a row due to unrest in the surrounding areas.
Reports from the city of Zuwara also reported that military skirmishes took place near the eastern entrance to the city, after a non-local military force entered, which raised a state of anxiety among the local population and prompted the authorities to take strict security measures.
Various military forces are deployed in the Abu Kamash-Ras Jadir area, including the Border Guard forces, which are affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the unity government stationed in Tripoli, and are mainly deployed along the border with Tunisia. There is also the Tariq bin Ziyad Battalion, which is located in the Zuwara and Al-Jameel area.
There is also the Al-Samoud Brigade of the Tripoli Government Navy, which is deployed in the Sabratha and Gharb region, the February 17 Martyrs Brigade and the Tripoli Martyrs Brigade, in addition to some other militias and armed groups.
