An informed Libyan source revealed intensive movements led by the Supreme Council of State in Libya to hold a new round of political talks in the Kingdom of Morocco, instead of Cairo.
The source explained in statements to ‘Hespress’ newspaper that this effort is to avoid regional pressures, facilitate reaching understandings on electoral issues and end the current political stalemate.
The source said that the Council is trying to hold the expected round at the end of this month, and it is expected to bring together the President of the Supreme Council of State, Mohamed Takala, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi.
The source also stated that the meeting aims to facilitate reaching understandings on the outstanding electoral laws, which were discussed without tangible results in previous meetings in Egypt under the auspices of the Arab League.
The source also revealed that a meeting scheduled in Morocco last month between the three parties was postponed, due to disagreements over the personalities who will lead the new phase in Libya and the electoral laws that require candidates to resign from their current positions.
This proposal comes in light of the political tensions and pressures imposed by regional powers such as Egypt, Turkey, Russia, and France to influence the Libyan scene.
Reports indicate that there is a division between the Libyan parties over where to hold the new round of talks, with some factions supporting Cairo, while others are pushing for Morocco as a more suitable place to ensure the integrity and impartiality of the discussions.
It is noteworthy that the presidential and legislative elections were scheduled for December 2021 and were postponed due to disagreements over electoral laws.
