On Sunday, the Libyan House of Representatives congratulated the Libyan people on the 72nd anniversary of the country’s independence, which falls on December 24 of each year.
“The Speaker of the House of Representatives and all the staff of the House of Representatives are pleased to extend their sincere congratulations to the great Libyan people on the seventy-second anniversary of our country’s independence,” the statement said.
The Libyan House of Representatives stated in its statement that the independence of the country was only achieved through the determination of the Libyan people and their steadfast belief in the unity, independence, and sovereignty of Libya.
December 24th was designated as an official holiday in Libya by the National Transitional Council after the cancellation of commemorations during the 42-year rule of the late President Muammar Gaddafi. The flag of independence was raised for the first time after this period during the early days of the February revolution in the city of Benghazi.
