Libyan horse breeders showcased their purebred Arabian horses in front of an international jury on the outskirts of the Libyan capital Tripoli, in a beauty competition, the first in the country in 14 years.

More than 70 brown, chestnut or grey horses competed in the National Arabian Horse Championship, in the Qasr Bin Ghashir area on the outskirts of the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

Ahmed al-Amami, owner of the oasis stables in the eastern city of Benghazi, said: “The competition constituted a great wedding for the purebred Arabian horse in Libya,” adding: “For 14 years we have not seen competitions and festivals in the city of Tripoli.”

The French ambassador to Libya, Mustafa Maharaj, praised this initiative, which promises that life is returning to Libya, and said: “The Persians are a symbol of authentic Arab culture, and for us as French people, it is a bridge between French and Arab cultures in this field.”

One of the highlights of the competition was the remarkable participation of Sima Othman Boubatina, an 18-year-old Libyan woman who competed with 14 mares from a famous horse farm and won a special prize as the first and youngest woman to participate in such a competition in Libya.
