The Derna and Affected Cities and Areas Reconstruction Fund, headed by Belkacem Haftar in eastern Libya, has begun maintenance operations for residential complexes in the Salam (Ambakh) neighborhood of Derna city.
In a statement, the Fund announced that the project includes comprehensive maintenance of the external facades of residential complexes, in addition to the maintenance of internal stairs, sewage systems, rainwater drainage and electrical networks.
The statement issued by the Fund indicated that the operation also includes the paving of main and secondary roads leading to housing units.
The Libyan city of Derna was hit by a horrific humanitarian disaster during Storm Daniel last September, as the storms caused extensive destruction to infrastructure and thousands of homes.
According to a report by the World Bank, the United Nations and the European Union, Libya urgently needs $1.8 billion for reconstruction and recovery from this disaster.
In a related context, a contract was signed last January for the implementation of two bridges in the cities of Derna and Sousse, where the contracts were signed by the Executive Director of the Derna City and Affected Areas Reconstruction Fund, in Al-Qasim Haftar, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Contractors Company, the contractor executing the works, Eng. Ahmed Al-Assar, at the Fund’s headquarters in Derna.
