Libya’s Attorney General’s Office issued an order to detain the head of the Tripoli branch of the Social Solidarity Fund after accusations of human rights violations in seven social welfare homes.

The office said in a statement issued on Friday that the investigating authority filed a public case against the perpetrators of human rights violations in seven social welfare homes in Tripoli.

The statement pointed out that the employees of the Human Rights Department of the Attorney General’s Office conducted an inspection about mismanagement in those institutions, and the failure of the Social Solidarity Fund to abide by the rights established by the legislation in force related to its field of work.

The Attorney General’s Office confirmed the existence of administrative and financial corruption in these institutions, which negatively affected the rights of groups eligible for social welfare.

After questioning the head of the Fund’s branch and hearing witnesses about these incidents, the investigator ordered his pretrial detention pending the case.
