Fire brigades are following for the second day operations to extinguish the huge fire that broke out in electricity stores in the Kuraimiya area, south of the Libyan capital Tripoli, on Sunday.
The fire began to spread rapidly and widely in all directions, threatening to burn dozens of nearby houses.
Loud explosions were heard, adding to the scale of the disaster as firefighters struggled hard to put out the blaze, which broke out uncontrollably.
The Libyan Civil Defence received reports of injuries, with three of its members suffering minor injuries and nine others suffocating due to heavy smoke.
Despite the efforts of fire crews and the arrival of more cars at the scene, they had difficulty controlling the fire due to the intensity and speed of the fire.
“During the earnest efforts to control the fire, the National Oil Corporation was summoned to provide support, contributing with seven firefighting vehicles in the suppression attempts.”

For his part, outgoing Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba called for an immediate investigation to determine the source of the fire and ensure the safety of citizens.
The government called on the Attorney General to open an extensive investigation to find out the causes of the fire that broke out in one of the stores of the General Electricity Company in the Kuraimiya area, calling for the use of accredited judicial experts to find out the truth, in order to prove the rights of citizens.
In a statement published on Monday on its Facebook page, the government announced that it was harnessing all available capabilities to support efforts to control the fire.
In a related context, Libyan Interior Minister Essam Abu Zariba called for the evacuation of houses located near burning warehouses, while sending warnings to citizens of the need to take the necessary measures to protect themselves and their property.
The concerned authorities continue their efforts to control the fire and limit its spread, while the authorities are trying to investigate the causes of the outbreak and limit the potential damage that may be caused to the area.
