A number of Misrata revolutionaries announced the reactivation of the city’s military council and the formation of a supreme military council that includes all military councils, in response to the transfer of the powers of the army commander to the speaker of parliament.

This announcement came in a statement published by the revolutionary groups, in which they stressed their support for state institutions and called on all revolutionary battalions to join the headquarters of the military council.

The statement stressed the importance of unifying ranks to achieve the goals of the revolution through civilian rule and the peaceful transfer of power, away from the rule of the family and the military. The statement also stressed the need to activate the role of the High Elections Commission to ensure the sovereignty of the country and the expulsion of foreign forces.

This decision comes in light of the critical conditions witnessed by Libya, the deterioration of living conditions, and the political deadlock.

In the same context, the Libyan House of Representatives announced last Tuesday the suspension of the Geneva Political Agreement and the end of the term of the executive authority in Tripoli, recognizing Osama Hamad’s government as a legitimate interim government until a unified government is chosen.

The spokesman for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Blihaq, stated that the council decided to appoint the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the supreme commander of the Libyan army in accordance with the constitutional declaration and the relevant decisions of the council.
