The Passports, Nationality and Foreigners Affairs Authority in Libya discussed settling the legal status of the Bangladeshi community residing in the country with the Ambassador of Bangladesh.

A meeting was held in Tripoli in the presence of the head of the department, Major General Yousef Murad, and the Bangladeshi ambassador to Libya, Abu Al-Hasanat Muhammad Khair Al-Bishr, where the details of overcoming the legal obstacles facing this community were discussed.

During the meeting, the Bangladeshi Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts made by the Libyan Authority to ensure better care for residents from Bangladesh. The meeting also discussed supporting bilateral relations between Libya and Bangladesh and ways to enhance cooperation in the long term.

The number of Bangladeshi workers in Libya at the beginning of 2024 is estimated at about 20,000, and in October 2023, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Ministers of Labor of the two countries to regulate the process of recruiting workers and ensure their protection from exploitation.
