The Libyan capital, Tripoli, is preparing to host an international conference on migration across the Mediterranean on July 17, with the participation of the European Union Commission and leaders from European and African countries.

Through this event, the Libyan government seeks to develop practical solutions that curb irregular migration and enhance regional cooperation.

The forum also aims to address common challenges and achieve greater stability in the region and will be attended by dignitaries including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Interior Minister Matteo Pentedossi, who are scheduled to arrive in Tripoli tomorrow.

The Minister of State for Communication and Policy Affairs in the Government of National Unity, Walid Al-Lafi, stated that the forum will be a one-day working session, including contributions from countries such as Italy, Malta, Niger, Chad, Spain, Greece, the Czech Republic, Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia, and the Netherlands, in addition to Representatives of the League of Arab States, the European Union and the African Union.

This forum is being held in light of the escalation of the illegal immigration crisis, as Libya is a major crossing point for migrants towards Europe, and the country faces multiple challenges in managing this file in light of the complex security and humanitarian conditions.

It is noteworthy that there were several important conferences on illegal immigration held in Libya recently, as the African-European conference on irregular immigration was held in the city of Benghazi in eastern Libya. The conference lasted for 3 days and was sponsored by the government of Osama Hamad appointed by the House of Representatives, and representatives of The European Parliaments, the European Center for Electoral Support, and the World Solidarity and Friendship Organization, in addition to representatives from European and African countries, and last January, the government of Osama Hamad organized an African conference on migration in the city of Benghazi as well.
