The head of the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives, Osama Hamad, inaugurated the first edition of the Benghazi Summer Festival on Thursday.
In his opening speech at the festival, Hamad explained that the Libyan government, since assuming responsibility, aims to support cultural, artistic and sports activities, and create an environment conducive to creativity in various fields.
He stressed that the government has worked to support programs and initiatives that enhance public awareness and encourage young people to participate in various events.
Hamad pointed out that the government has participated in organizing international Quran competitions and has supported many sports activities.
He stated that the Benghazi Summer Festival, which extends over fifteen days, includes a variety of events, including theatrical performances, a book fair in which many publishing houses participate, and a Libyan heritage exhibition that displays popular values and heritage.
The festival’s activities also include competitions in electronic games and various sports such as swimming and beach soccer, in addition to the equestrian championship that includes teams and knights from inside and outside Libya. The festival will also host Russian circus shows, which is one of the largest shows in Russia and the third largest in the world, providing an opportunity for family entertainment.
Hamad noted that the main objectives of holding the Benghazi Summer Festival include providing opportunities for young people to participate in sports and cultural activities, enhancing the spirit of competition among them, and creating an entertainment and educational space targeting all age groups.
He pointed out that this event is an unprecedented step in Libya and reflects the development boom that the country is witnessing in infrastructure, sports, educational and cultural facilities.
At the end of his speech, the Prime Minister stressed that the Benghazi Summer Festival aims to promote tourism from inside and outside Libya and present a clear and direct picture to the world about the reality of the situation in the country, away from the biased narratives promoted by the media.
