The High Electoral Commission announced today, Sunday, the extension of the voter registration period for municipal council elections by another week.
The Commission stated in its statement that the registration process witnessed an increasing demand from citizens, achieving positive registration rates.
The Commission said: “Many citizens and civil society organizations in municipalities requested an extension of the registration period, which was scheduled to end today.”
She continued: “In response to these demands, the Commission Council decided to extend the period for updating the voter registry until Sunday, July 7, 2024. This extension aims to provide the opportunity for those who have not yet registered and wish to actively participate in their municipal council elections.”
The Commission aims to hold elections in 106 municipal councils during the year 2024 and says that registration in municipal council elections is completely new, and is based on residence in the municipality in which the applicant for registration will be elected.
As of yesterday, Saturday, data issued by the Commission showed that the number of registered men reached 44,496 voters, and 11,931 female voters, according to the daily statement it issues to announce registration statistics on its “Facebook” page.
