The former spokesman for the Libyan State Council, Sanusi Ismail, stated that the transfer of Mohamed Takala from the Accord Bloc to the opposition in the State Council is obstructing political consensus with the House of Representatives.
Ismail explained that Takala had violated previous agreements on electoral laws and called for their renegotiation and stated that he wanted to rewrite the electoral laws, which would prolong the legislative process and put it in a vicious cycle of amendments.
Ismail pointed out that during the Cairo meeting, a call was made to expand the circle of consensus to include other political and military parties.
In a related context, Ismail noted that the resignation of UN envoy Bathili, who was obstructing consensus and putting forward unrealistic initiatives, provides an opportunity to strengthen regional consensus on Libya.
He also stressed that the acting head of the UN mission, Stephanie Khoury, lacks sufficient powers to bring about tangible change.
