Libya’s Public Prosecution has revealed details of two incidents of corruption in state institutions, including embezzlement of funds and falsification of official documents in Tripoli and Misrata.

The Public Prosecution ordered the detention of three officers from the Misrata Passports, Nationality and Foreigners Affairs Authority after they were involved in forging official documents and counterfeiting the seals of the state and private legal persons for the purpose of illegal profit.

The Attorney General’s Office said on its official page on Monday that “the recommendations of the Public Prosecution to monitor the mechanism for collecting tax, fees, and due security contributions, contributed to an increase in revenues by 55% for financiers engaged in economic activities, and by 300% for contracts for the employment of foreigners, and security contributions rose from sixty-nine thousand eighty-seven dinars and six hundred and forty-nine dirhams, to one million one hundred and twelve thousand nine hundred and twenty dinars and eighty-five dirhams.”

On the other hand, the prosecution’s investigations revealed an incident of corruption that accompanied the procedures for the supply of the computer course for basic education and the first year of secondary education at the Center for Educational Curricula and Research.

The prosecution explained that the head of the financial department at the center conspired with former managers to pay $ 2.394 million without verifying the conformity of the supplied material specifications in the contract, including the requirement that the electronic copy of the material respond to any development guaranteed by the exclusive rights to the center’s work, according to the prosecution’s statement.

The statement added that it became clear to the investigator that the financial officer and other officials in the center received bribes worth 675,000 dinars in exchange for paying the price of a contract to print methodological books that the executing company did not commit to supply.

The investigator ordered the detention of the accused and directed the judicial police authorities to prosecute former managers and the accreditation officer at the center.
