The Libyan Zliten City Council called on the security authorities to move quickly to remove ammunition depots from residential areas, and to open an investigation into the incident after a new explosion occurred yesterday, Friday.
The council indicated in its statement that the city had witnessed several similar incidents in the past, highlighting the urgent need to take effective preventive measures.
The council called for an urgent investigation by the competent authorities to determine the reasons for the recurrence of these incidents and to take the necessary measures to prevent them in the future.
The council stressed the need to move ammunition depots to sites far from residential areas, strengthen security measures around these depots, and organize awareness campaigns for local residents on how to act in the event of an explosion.
In this context, western Libya is witnessing a state of continuous instability and security chaos, and the failure of the authorities of the expired Government of National Unity headed by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, to spread security and stability in the region, which is still subject to the tampering of armed groups.
Hardly a week goes by without armed clashes and violent incidents in western Libya, in light of the silence of the government, which is unable to intervene to restore calm, and which usually leaves the initiative to the city’s notables and tribal leaders. Despite the failure of the Dbeibeh government and the cases of violence and insecurity in western Libya, Dbeibeh still clings to his power and rejects elections and the formation of a new government.
