The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity in Libya, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, and the High Council of State, Mohamed Tekala, announced their acceptance of the call of the UN envoy Abdullah Batili to hold a national dialogue between the main parties in the country, to resolve outstanding differences and move Libya towards elections.
This came during a joint meeting between Dabaiba and Tekala, in which they stressed the need to support the efforts of UN envoy Abdullah Batelli, in order to reach the elections in accordance with fair and impartial laws.
The UN envoy continues his efforts to bring Libyan leaders to one negotiating table to agree on a roadmap for the electoral process and to end the state of political division, by intensifying his meetings with those concerned with the initiative and with representatives of Western countries in Libya, but his efforts still encounter some obstacles and the conditions of the disparate and conflicting stakeholders, which may lead to aborting them.
Libya’s political process has been stalled since the collapse of elections scheduled for December 2021 due to political disagreements over electoral rules and a struggle over power and wealth.
