Five bodies were found in the Harsha area of the city of Zawiya, west of Tripoli, Libya, where clashes and protests erupted at dawn on Saturday.
Local sources confirmed that the bodies of the killed youths, some of them belong to the people of the city of Zawiya itself, and others belong to a girl whose identity is not yet known, and the bodies bear the effects of gunfire.
After the discovery of the bodies, clashes erupted in the city between the Counter-Terrorism Service and a tribal armed group, which took place inside residential neighborhoods using heavy and medium weapons and shells, killing at least one person, burning a health center and damaging other buildings.
The clashes and the increase in lawlessness prompted residents to take to the streets in front of the security directorate to express the anger of the population with the spread of crimes and the increase in security lawlessness.
During the clashes, the Libyan Red Crescent called on the conflicting parties to immediately cease fire and enter into a temporary humanitarian truce to enable medical teams to rescue the wounded and evacuate families trapped in the areas of clashes.
Shops closed their doors on Saturday, in addition to the suspension of classes at Zawiya University, where the university’s student union announced the suspension of working hours due to the university’s geographical proximity to the areas of clashes.
Zawiya, like many Libyan cities in the west under the control of the government of Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, is witnessing periodic conflicts between armed groups vying for influence, in the absence of central control.
