The Libyan Authority for Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development, organized a celebration on the occasion of International Museum Day.

The celebration carried the slogan “Museums: an incubator for innovation and community development,” emphasizing the multiple roles of museums in serving society and development.

A number of officials participated in the celebration, including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Traditional Industries, officials of the Antiquities Service, and the National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in addition to representatives of archival and documentary institutions in Libya, according to the Commission’s official Facebook page.

In a speech, Director General of the Libyan Authority for Scientific Research, Faisal Al-Abdali, stressed the pivotal role of museums in the fields of education and scientific research, as open gateways to the past that “enrich knowledge and stimulate research and exploration, in addition to their role in preserving the national heritage and transmitting Libyan cultural identity to future generations.” .

The celebration included a number of important presentations about museums, the most notable of which was a presentation by the heritage official at the Ministry of Culture, Abdul Muttalib Abu Salem, entitled “Repurposing Historical Monuments as Museums,” and a presentation by the Antiquities Supervisor in Tripoli, Ramadan Al-Shaibani, entitled “Our Museums: Reality and Aspirations.”

Emphasis was placed on the multiple roles of museums in Libya, and on enhancing cooperation between cultural and research institutions specialized in scientific research.
