Participants in the illegal migration conference in the Libyan city of Benghazi issued an urgent call for an African summit, with the aim of developing a unified strategy to address the issue of illegal migrants.

The conference ended with the issuance of the “Benghazi Declaration Document”, which stressed the coordination and unification of African efforts and the need to reach a new agreement with European countries on the issue of migrants.

The participants in the document expressed their intention to transform the issue of migration into development opportunities for African countries, stressing the need to open a dialogue with countries receiving migrants, especially European countries, and to stay away from security treatments of the issue.

They also stressed the rejection of the political exploitation of the issue of migration within receiving countries and called for addressing the root causes and regularizing the legal status of migrants.

At the end of the conference, the Libyan government mandated by the House of Representatives was authorized to negotiate with the European side and develop new mechanisms to address the migration issue.

It is noteworthy that the conference was held on Monday and Tuesday, and issued the “Benghazi Declaration Document” with the wide participation of more than 30 delegations from African countries, and in the presence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, a number of members of the Council, the President of the African Parliament, Fortune Sharumbera, the Prime Minister-designate of Representatives, Osama Hammad, heads of African delegations, and a group of national and international experts specialized in illegal immigration issues.
