The Deterrence Service for Combating Terrorism and Crime of the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity in Libya announced on Thursday evening that it succeeded in arresting the emir of ISIS in the country, Hashem Abu Sidra, who is accused of facilitating the entry and concentration of terrorists inside the country.
The precise security operation took place during Abu Sidra’s attempt to head from the south to the capital, Tripoli, without recording any casualties.
The Deterrence Service confirmed the arrest of the “Wali of ISIS” Hashem Abu Sidra, nicknamed “Khabib”, and indicated that the confessions of the accused will be published in the coming period.
Abu Sidra has been wanted for years on charges of involvement in terrorist acts and crimes that threaten state security.
Prior to becoming leader of ISIS in Libya, Abu Sidra served as the emir of the Bureau of Immigration and Borders and was primarily responsible for the 2015 killing of Egyptian Copts in Sirte.
ISIS in Libya has declined in recent years, and its activity is limited to small cells in mountainous and desert areas far from security control.
