The western region of the Libyan capital Tripoli woke up to the echo of heavy gunfire as the “Forsan Janzour” battalion and public security forces exchanged fire in the western region, according to media sources.
In the incident, eyewitnesses reported clashes between two armed groups in the neighborhoods of western Tripoli after midnight on Friday, and despite the outbreak of clashes, there is no information so far about the causes of the conflict.
In the developments of the incident, an eyewitness explained that clashes broke out between gunmen from Interior Minister Imad Trabelsi’s Public Security Group and the Janzour group.
In other details, tensions are heading towards escalation in the areas of Janzour, al-Sarraj and Ghout al-Shaal in the far west of the Libyan capital.
The outbreak of clashes comes in the context of escalating military tension in Tripoli, reflecting the growing difficulties in reaching a political solution in light of the permanent divisions and tensions between rival factions.
Armed clashes had earlier erupted in the city of Gharyan, southwest of Tripoli, which sparked panic inside the city.
The difficulties in achieving political consensus in Libya are increasing due to major disagreements over electoral laws and the formation of a unified government, amid the absence of dialogue initiatives and understandings between the parties concerned.
