The High National Elections Commission in Libya announced the start of implementing elections for municipal councils whose term has expired, in addition to municipalities created with management councils, as of June 9.
The public administration was directed to develop approved plans for each stage of implementation, while taking the necessary measures in terms of equipping, staffing, and financial coverage of electoral administration offices, according to the size of the electoral process assigned to them.
According to the lists published by the Commission, the decision includes 101 municipalities, including 60 in the western region, 12 in the eastern region, and 29 in the southern region.
As part of the preparations, the Commission held a meeting with operations coordinators to discuss the readiness of the technical departments for the soon announcement of the opening of the voter register for municipal council elections.
Libyans hope that this step will be a turning point towards achieving their hopes of holding presidential and parliamentary elections in the near future.
