The Minister of Interior of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Imad Trabelsi, announced the deportation of more than 10,000 illegal immigrants from Libya over the past year.

Trabelsi said in a statement: “In coordination with the International Organization for Migration, 10,69 illegal immigrants were deported from Libya in 2023,” noting that: “With the application of many regular procedures, this number will double during the current year.”

Trabelsi called for cooperation with Libya in combating illegal immigration to complete the file of voluntary repatriation of migrants, stressing that his country will work to address random migration, which is prohibited by Libyan laws.

Trabelsi stressed that: “Libya will not allow the issue of settling migrants on its territory under any circumstances, nor will it even allow it to be discussed, given that Libya is one of the countries most affected by the influx of migrants and that it will work to respect the rights of migrants.”
