According to Sudanese government sources, the Libyan authorities conveyed to the parties to the conflict in Khartoum the desire of Turkey and Libya to host talks between them in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

Tripoli proposed leading a mediation to agree on an immediate ceasefire based on what happened at the Jeddah negotiating platform, the sources said.

Direct negotiations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces at the Jeddah platform came to an end months ago after accusations were exchanged by the two sides of violating the points of agreement and not implementing a number of items.

It is noteworthy that the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces agreed during the negotiations of the Jeddah platform last May, to withdraw the Rapid Support from homes and government institutions and to evacuate Khartoum from armed elements, which the authorities in Port Sudan say has not been implemented so far.

Last week, the Libyan capital witnessed the visit of both the commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hemedti), at the invitation of the Libyan Government of National Unity to discuss the possibility of reaching a stop to the war that has been going on for more than 10 months.

Earlier, Sudan’s Foreign Minister-designate, Ali al-Sadiq, said the government had agreed to hold indirect negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces with Turkish and Libyan mediation.
