The outgoing Libyan government announced that it is coordinating with its Tunisian counterpart to put the final touches on preparations for reopening the Ras Jadir land crossing.

The Ministry of the Interior of the outgoing “National Unity” government published it on the “Facebook” platform. A statement about the meeting of the committee concerned with activating the crossing with the Tunisian side, in order to arrange the final preparations necessary for the reopening.

The Ministry indicated that the Interior Minister-designate, Imad Trabelsi, issued his instructions, which were implemented during an inspection tour conducted yesterday, Saturday.

The crossing was expected to reopen on Thursday, June 20, but this was postponed to Monday, June 24, to ensure that all necessary logistical and security conditions are met.

It should be noted that the crossing witnessed a temporary reopening on June 13 for humanitarian and special cases, after reaching a seven-point security agreement between the Libyan and Tunisian ministries.

The Ras Jedir land crossing connects the Tunisian cities of Ben Guerdane and Abu Kammash in Libya. It was established in 1912 to facilitate the movement of trade between the two countries. On March 20, 2024, it was closed by the Libyan authorities, for security reasons related to the internal conflicts in Libya.
