Libya and Tunisia are holding discussions for bilateral cooperation in the field of waste disposal, to enhance the exchange of environmental experiences, and to conclude a new cooperation agreement.
Meetings were held recently in Tunisia with the participation of the Director General of the General Department of Environmental Remediation Affairs at the Libyan Ministry of Local Government, Ibrahim Ben Dakhil, and representatives of the Tunisian National Agency for Waste Management, in order to reach an agreement that enhances the efficiency of waste disposal and environmental management in both countries.
The meetings also discussed ways to implement training programs to develop the skills of Libyan cadres and improve practices related to waste management.
The agreement is scheduled to include the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and the development of joint strategies to effectively confront the challenges of waste disposal, especially plastic waste, which poses a major challenge due to its long lifespan and difficulty in decomposition.
The Libyan Minister of Local Government, Badr al-Din al-Toumi, stressed the importance of this project as a starting point for reformulating a comprehensive strategy for solid waste in the ministry, noting the ongoing efforts to improve environmental management and waste disposal in a way that preserves the environment and supports sustainability.
