The Director of the European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Libyan government, Adel Bakkar, met with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee of the French Senate, Cedric Bern, in the French capital, Paris.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed several joint files, and reviewed the political file and economic developments in Libya, and among the topics discussed was the possibility of opening a French consulate in Benghazi.
The meeting also dealt with preparations for the African-European conference to be held in Benghazi next May, under the auspices of the Libyan Prime Minister, Osama Hammad.
In this context, Bakkar extended an official invitation to the head of the French committee on behalf of Libyan Foreign Minister Abdul Hadi al-Hawij to visit Benghazi and get acquainted with the situation and meet with officials in the House of Representatives and the Libyan government.
These meetings come in the context of strengthening bilateral relations between Libya and France and enhancing cooperation in various fields for the benefit of both countries.
