The Libyan city of Zliten witnessed a series of explosions in the early hours of Friday morning, which shook the city, resulting from the explosion of a weapons depot at the headquarters of the “Al-Ayan” military battalion.

Zliten Municipal Council member Mustafa Al-Bahbah told Al-Ahrar TV that the explosion occurred at around 4:00 am and the explosions lasted for several minutes, adding that no human casualties were recorded among the citizens.

For his part, the Director of the Ambulance and Emergency Department in Zliten, Al-Taher Al-Shatshati, confirmed that the explosion did not result in any injuries among the residents, and indicated that some homes were slightly damaged as a result of the explosions.

Social media users circulated video clips showing columns of smoke and tongues of flame rising from the site, amid conflicting accounts of the cause of the explosion.
