The situation in Libya is going through a sensitive and critical period after the escalation of clashes between armed factions in eastern Tajoura, where a ceasefire was agreed upon after 9 casualties.
According to recent reports, an agreement was reached to stop the fighting in the Al Quwaiiyah area, where the conflicting parties withdrew to their headquarters, and a neutral force from the “111th Brigade” was brought in to separate the two parties.
Reports indicate that the clashes that began at dawn on Saturday between the “Misurata Joint Force” and the “Rahba Shield Battalion” resulted in a number of deaths and injuries, in addition to targeting civilians.
Nine people were killed in these clashes and 16 others were injured, including civilians, in acts of violence that included storming the headquarters of the “Rahba Shield Battalion” in Al-Qarabulli, which increased the tension in the security situation.
Emergency teams are working to evacuate families trapped from the areas of clashes and provide them with safe passages, and the Emergency Medicine and Support Center has asked citizens to avoid approaching combat areas.
The Prime Ministerial Council in Tripoli held a security meeting to discuss the situation, while the coastal roads between Tripoli and Misrata were closed, and the capital witnessed a heavy deployment of security forces, and the University of Tripoli announced the suspension of studies and administrative activities.
These events come at a time when Libya has been suffering from deep divisions since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, with the two rival governments in the west and east of the country vying for power.
