The security services in Libya announced the arrest of a girl wanted in a case of kidnapping and blackmailing her boyfriend with large sums of money, a case that has recently preoccupied public opinion in the country.
The Tripoli Security Directorate revealed that the girl met the victim six months before the incident and had an emotional relationship with him. When the victim asked to meet her because he was from outside the capital, the girl sought the help of another person to prepare an ambush to trap the victim and blackmail him.
It was agreed that the girl would meet the victim and take him with her to a rest stop in the Karimiya area.
Half an hour after they arrived at the rest stop, the girl’s partner in the crime entered with two other people camouflaged in military clothing and firearms, claiming that they belonged to a security agency, wondering why they were there, and threatening to take strict legal measures against them.
They beat the victim, stole his phones and a sum of money he had in his possession, worth 5,000 dinars, and photographed him naked. They also beat the girl herself to remove suspicions from her.
The next day, the gang demanded a ransom from the victim and asked him to communicate with his family in order to ransom money in exchange for his freedom.
The victim’s brothers sent an amount of 150 thousand dinars through a transfer office, and the victim’s brother told the office owner that the transfer was a ransom for his brother’s release. When the gang formation arrived to receive the amount, they feared that their matter would be exposed, so they fled.
The Tripoli Security Directorate confirmed that the necessary legal measures have been taken against the accused, and she has been referred to the Public Prosecution, while the search is still ongoing to arrest the rest of the gang members.
