The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Minister Sergey Lavrov will conduct a working visit to Tunisia on December 20 and 21, 2023, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar.
This visit comes within the framework of enhancing political consultations between the two countries, as the meeting focuses on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, develop the pattern of trade exchanges between the two countries and explore new opportunities to enhance the future partnership.
According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, this visit provides an opportunity to consult on current issues in the regional and international arena, highlighting in particular the current situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
These talks come in the context of the continued brutal aggression against the unarmed population in the Gaza Strip, while stressing the need to intensify international action to achieve a permanent ceasefire and provide urgent humanitarian assistance to civilians.
In a related context, Lavrov stressed that “Russia’s efforts are continuing to turn the Palestinian conflict into a diplomatic track,” while focusing on the importance of stopping violence and escalation and resolving urgent humanitarian issues in the Gaza Strip.
It is noteworthy that Lavrov arrived on Wednesday in Morocco to participate in the plenary session of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum, which is being held in the presence of the Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, and ministerial delegations from participating Arab countries.
