Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday (December 27th) that NATO countries have caused the destruction of Libya, claiming to bring democracy to Libya.

The Russian foreign minister said in a statement during a press conference with his guest, Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar, in response to a question from reporters about Ukraine that “the United States can declare Ukraine’s victory as it did before in Libya, Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq.”

Lavrov continued: “None of the countries that the United States of America has used to achieve its interests away from its coast is in a better position than it was.”

In this regard, Lavrov recalled that the United States invaded Iraq in 2003 and declared a month later that “democracy had been victorious… It’s been twenty years, so where is Iraq now?”

“Look at the Middle East, what is happening in the Gaza Strip in the circumstances of Washington’s obstruction for many years of any efforts to establish a Palestinian state in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.”

The Russian minister gave the example of the neighboring countries of the United States, saying: “Even if we do not go away from the American coast, there is Haiti, which is one of the poorest countries in the world, which the United States has been trying to help for a hundred years.” The minister concluded that declaring victory for the Americans would not be the first, and concluded by saying, “I think they will declare some victory.”
