Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that he discussed with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, the convening of the joint committee and many Arab issues and files, in addition to bilateral files.

The Russian minister’s remarks came during a bilateral meeting with Bourita, on the sidelines of the Arab-Russian Forum (sixth session) held in Marrakech, Morocco.

Regarding Western Sahara, Lavrov said: “We support the efforts of the UN envoy to the Sahara, and we support the establishment of stability in Western Sahara.”

“Our visit to Morocco was very successful, and we reached tangible results at the bilateral and Arab levels,” he said.

“The Arab world sees Russia as a partner capable of playing a constructive role in Arab issues,” said Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, noting that Morocco considers the Arab-Russian Forum an extension of the long-standing historical relations between the two countries.

Lavrov arrived in Marrakech, which witnessed the meeting of the Russian-Arab Cooperation Forum on Wednesday, the first meeting in a ministerial format, in the past four years, as the previous meeting was held in Moscow, in April 2019, before the plans of the sessions were modified due to the outbreak of the “Corona” pandemic.

The Forum on Russian-Arab Cooperation between Russia and the League of Arab States was established in 2009.

According to the memorandum signed in Cairo, the main goals and objectives of the Forum are to support efforts to establish and strengthen international peace and security, as well as to promote the development of economic, commercial and financial cooperation and the implementation of joint projects.
