King Mohammed VI spoke on the telephone with Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, on Tuesday in a conversation that focused on the positive dynamics of Moroccan-Nigerian bilateral relations in recent years.

Addressing a number of significant issues, the two heads of state discussed the Nigeria-Morocco African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline project that is scheduled to begin construction this year and will transport natural gas to Europe via a number of West African countries including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and ultimately through Morocco.

Intended to encourage socio-economic growth and connectivity, the project, valued at $25 billion, should facilitate West African countries’ economic development and regional integration while also connecting them with the European market.

The project witnessed strategic progress in June 2023 with the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding.

King Mohammed VI invited President Tinubu to make an official visit to Morocco, underscoring the kingdom’s commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations. The timing of the visit will be determined at a later date.

The growing partnership between Nigeria and Morocco demonstrates significant potential for mutually beneficial collaboration covering a variety of areas of interest.
