The Iraqi government blamed the US-led international coalition for Thursday’s attack on the PMF headquarters in the capital Baghdad.
According to the spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi armed forces, Maj. Gen. Yahya Rasul, the attack was carried out by a drone that targeted a security headquarters in Baghdad, killing two members of the Popular Mobilization Forces and wounding 6 others.
Rasul condemned the attack, describing it as “a blatant attack and flagrant infringement on Iraq’s sovereignty and security”, stressing that it undermines the understandings between the Iraqi armed forces and the international coalition forces.
The attack constitutes a dangerous escalation and an aggression against Iraq, he said, adding that it “contradicts the spirit of the mandate and action that the coalition has been assigned to in Iraq”.
