The Lebanese newspaper “An-Nahar Al-Arabi” said that Stephanie Khoury’s first briefing before the Security Council had lowered expectations regarding the political track in Libya.
The newspaper explained that Khoury did not present any clear initiative or plan during her briefing, and merely conveyed the ideas that were presented to her during her meetings with the Libyan parties and elites. Khoury did not specify whether she would rely on the House of Representatives and the State only, or whether she would seek a broader dialogue that includes all parties.
Khoury did not disclose her position on the issue of unifying the two competing governments in Libya, although she indicated ideas about a road map that addresses the fundamental aspects, including the formation of an interim government and steps towards holding elections.
Khoury stressed the need for a comprehensive process led by Libyans to overcome the political stalemate and called for supporting the Libyan people in achieving their aspirations for peace, stability, prosperity and democracy, without revealing additional details.
Khoury once again highlighted the need to unify the security establishment, noting the fragility of the security scene in Libya and the necessity of achieving comprehensive security stability to ensure the success of any political process.
