Sudan welcomed Egypt’s announcement regarding its intention to host a conference of all Sudanese civil political forces, at the end of June 2024.

In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs renewed the confidence of the Sudanese government and people in Egypt and its leadership, as it is “most keen on Sudan’s security, peace and stability, because that is Egypt’s security, peace and stability.”

The statement pointed out that “Egypt is best able to help reach a comprehensive national consensus among the Sudanese to resolve the current crisis,” stressing that “the Egyptian role in this regard is required and welcomed.”

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry’s statement appreciated the Egyptian position, which stresses the importance of “respecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of Sudan’s territories, not interfering in its internal affairs, and preserving the state and its institutions,” and that the goal of the conference should be to reach a purely Sudanese vision, based on the fact that the crisis is “essentially a Sudanese issue.”

The statement added, “In order for these good endeavors to succeed, there must be a true representation of the silent majority of the Sudanese people, whose blood was shed, whose honor was violated, whose property was looted, and who were forcibly displaced, and who are expressed by popular resistance.”

The statement continued that “the basis of participation must be to confirm the existing legitimacy in the country, preserve national institutions, especially the armed forces, and refuse to weaken or question them.”

The statement stressed the need to “clarify who are the regional and international partners who will attend the conference and the limits of their role, especially since the conference is intended to reach a purely Sudanese vision.”

He explained, “It must be emphasized that it will not be acceptable to the Sudanese people for the sponsors of the terrorist Rapid Support militia to attend the conference, who continue to supply it with lethal weapons to kill innocent people, violate honor, and destroy the country’s infrastructure, or the neighboring countries that the Security Council experts’ report referred to as partners.” In passing weapons flights and crossing them from the UAE to Chad, through Umm Djeres Airport, which was prepared for the entry of these supplies and from there to Darfur.”

The Foreign Ministry stated that the Sudanese people “will never accept the representation of any regional or international organization that has been silent about condemning the crimes of the terrorist militia and its grave violations of international humanitarian law and human rights in its various aspects, even in the capacity of an observer.” The same applies to countries that have become a base for the militia’s propaganda and political work and for laundering the money it obtains from plundering and smuggling the country’s wealth.”

According to the Sudanese statement, “Sudan is specifically committed to not participating in the African Union and IGAD unless this is preceded by the start of actual steps to lift the freeze on Sudan’s activity in the continental organization, and for IGAD to correct its position that violates Sudan’s sovereignty, so that it can be trusted by the Sudanese people, in a way that enables it to attend a conference like this.” “.

The statement concluded by saying, “The role of any regional or international parties that will attend the conference should not exceed the role of observer, and confirming the support of the international community for what the participants reach of their free will without trying to impose any external agenda or visions of these parties, as happened before.”
