Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Sadiq Ali stressed that the Sudanese authorities have no fundamental objections to the establishment of a Russian naval base in the country.

Speaking on the sidelines of the diplomatic forum in Antalya, the minister said: “We have no fundamental objections to the agreements reached under the previous government, this is an obligation of the state.”

“Sudan’s new parliament will consider the agreement with Russia on the establishment of a naval base in the country after the elections,” the minister added.

The minister continued: “We believe that a new parliament should be formed to study the agreement and put a positive recommendation to the government, so we leave this issue to the parliament that will be elected.”

In February, the Russian ambassador to Khartoum, Andrei Chernovol, confirmed that Sudan has not yet been able to complete the ratification procedures for the agreement to establish a Russian naval base on the Red Sea.
