French star Karim Benzema announced that he will attend the match between Algeria and Guinea in the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held next Thursday.
Benzema, the Saudi Al-Ittihad club striker, explained that he is on a tourist tour in his home country, Algeria, taking advantage of his summer vacation.
Benzema, who was born in the French city of Lyon, decided to visit Algeria for the first time in his life, where he would begin his journey, in which he traveled by private plane, by visiting the city of Bejaia, the birthplace of his mother, before passing through the state of Tiaret, the birthplace of his father.
Benzema confirmed, in brief statements to the local press on Saturday, that he will watch the Algerian national team’s match against Guinea from the stands, in the match that will be held at Nelson Mandela Stadium on June 6.
The Algerian national team will continue its journey by facing its host Uganda four days later in the seventh group matches, which Algeria leads with 6 points.
Benzema, 36 years old, scored 37 goals in 97 international matches with the French national team, and was part of the squad that won the European Nations League in 2021.
The former Real Madrid captain and winner of the Ballon d’Or in 2022 suffered from injuries, which affected his participation with his new club, Al-Ittihad Saudi Arabia, during most of the season after his transfer during the last summer transfer period.
