Tunisian President Kais Saied’s imminent visit to Nouakchott is his first to Mauritania since his election as president, media sources have revealed.

The Tunisian president’s visit to Nouakchott will take place before the end of February, and that it will focus on discussing the most important hot files in the region, most notably the issue of irregular migration, which threatens the stability of the Maghreb countries Mauritania and Tunisia in particular, Mauritania and Tunisia in particular.

The last meeting between Mauritanian President Ould Cheikh Ghazouani and Tunisian Kais Saied took place on January 29, 2024, on the sidelines of the Italian-African summit in Rome, Italy.

The last visit by a Tunisian president to Mauritania dates back to 2012 when former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki visited his Mauritanian counterpart at the time, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.
