The Election Commission in Rwanda announced the victory of President Paul Kagame for a fourth presidential term, for a period of 5 years, after obtaining 99.18% of the votes, according to the results of the electoral process, which took place last Monday.
The Rwandan Broadcasting Corporation reported on Thursday that candidate Frank Habiniza, from the Democratic “Green Party”, received 0.5% of the votes, while the independent candidate, Philip Mbaimana, received only 0.32%.
This will be Kagame’s fourth consecutive presidential term, as he received a higher number of votes in the last elections than the percentage of votes he obtained in the previous elections, which was approximately 99%.
The electoral authorities in Rwanda announced that Kagame had won more than 99% of the electoral votes, according to the preliminary results of the presidential elections, which took place on Monday.
This result is considered “widely expected,” which confirms that Kagame will extend his rule in power, which has continued since 2000, for an additional 5 years.
The current election result in Rwanda is reminiscent of what happened in 2017, when Kagame received about 99% of the votes.
