The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that in 2023, more than 5,000 new disabled members of the Israeli army were added to the rehabilitation department.
The newspaper noted that among the newly disabled were “3,400 since the beginning of the war” last October. The number of disabled people is expected to rise in 2024 to 12,500, according to Israeli Defense Ministry estimates.
“The forecast (for 2024) is shocking, as 12,500 fighters will be recognized as disabled, which is a very conservative and cautious estimate, and the volume of requests is expected to reach 20,000,” the newspaper said.
“It is important to note that these figures do not include civilians who have been injured since October 7,” she said.
