The “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper quoted Israeli officials as saying that the Paris talks on the Gaza Strip were good and saw significant progress.

The Israeli newspaper pointed out that the Israeli delegation, headed by Mossad chief David Barnia, returned on Saturday morning from the French capital, Paris, where he participated in the meetings accompanied by CIA Director Bill Burns, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egyptian intelligence director Abbas Kamel.

The Times of Israel reported that in the Paris negotiations on detainees, the Israeli team received the green light from Israel’s War Council to soften its position regarding the number of Palestinian security prisoners to be released for each detainee in Gaza.

The newspaper quoted Israeli security sources as saying: “Israel will escalate its military pressure until the last minute because it is negotiations under bombardment that allow for better results.”

“Hamas” said it had concluded ceasefire talks in Cairo and was now waiting to see what mediators would return to talks with Israel early next week.

“Hamas,” which is believed to still hold more than 100 prisoners caught in its grasp in the October 7 attack on Israel, has confirmed that it will only release them as part of a truce that ends with an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, while Israel says it will not withdraw until Hamas is eliminated.

Mediators are stepping up efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, hoping to stave off an Israeli offensive on the southern besieged city of Rafah, where more than a million displaced people live.
