An Iraqi security source confirmed that the news circulating about the discovery of the body of the famous Iraqi blogger Hadeel Abdul Rashid, known as “Umm Al-Lul,” inside a cell in a Baghdad prison, is incorrect.
This denial came after posts were circulated on social media in Iraq, indicating that “the body of the famous blogger was found,” who was serving a life sentence after being convicted of drug trafficking, which prompted Iraqi security to respond and reveal the truth.
The security source told the local “Al-Sumaria” channel website that the news of “Umm Al-Lul’s” death after hanging herself in a prison in the capital, Baghdad, “is not true and she is in good health.”
Last May, an Iraqi court sentenced “Umm Al-Lul” to life imprisonment after convicting her of drug trafficking charges, as the authorities announced the dismantling of a network specialized in drug trafficking, which included “Umm Al-Lul.”
The General Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, affiliated with the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, said in a statement at the time: “The so-called (H.K.A.), nicknamed ‘Umm Al-Lul’, was monitored transporting narcotic substances with the intention of trading in them, and a specialized work team was formed, and she was fundamentally arrested and referred to the competent court.” She was sentenced to life imprisonment.”
